1. Introduction

Welcome to FileStation. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we handle data in our cross-device shared workspace service, which is designed to be used without an account.

2. No Account Required

FileStation is a "no-login" service. You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or set a password to create or join a workspace — a nickname is all that's required. To sign in on an additional device, you approve it with a QR code from a device already in the workspace; we do not maintain user profiles or permanent records of your identity.

3. Data We Collect

Due to the nature of our service, data collection is limited to what a workspace needs to function:

Uploaded Files: The files members choose to upload are stored on our servers for as long as the workspace or file exists.
Workspace Metadata: Workspace names, member nicknames/display names, permission settings, and chat messages sent within a workspace.
Usage Data: We may collect anonymous server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps) for security, abuse prevention, and service diagnostics.

4. Storage & Retention Policy

Unlike a one-off file transfer, a FileStation workspace is persistent: files, chat history, and member settings remain available to the workspace until someone with permission removes them.

Files and chat messages are kept until a member with delete permission removes them, or the workspace owner deletes the workspace.
Each workspace has a storage quota; uploads that would exceed it are rejected.
Once a file or workspace is deleted, it cannot be recovered. We do not keep backups of deleted data.

5. Security

Access to a workspace is controlled by its owner: new members can be limited to those with the workspace name and invite link, and the owner decides who may upload, delete files, or be removed from the workspace. Members are responsible for sharing workspace names and invite links only with people they trust.
